The 2013 Nick Lea Christmas Zine is now available.

I'd like to thank the authors and artists who contributed to the Zine, and special thanks to Tarlan for putting the final zine together when my brain decided it couldn't function through the after effects of the migraine from hell which was triggered by some *expletive deleted* person letting off air bombs at midnight.

I am shocked and disgusted at this attack on an individual's right to love whom they please.

Two Indian Supreme Court judges just decided that gay sex is illegal. ILLEGAL!! But if we act fast we can help reverse this crazy backwards ruling.

Men and women in India now face police harassment and life imprisonment. This hateful decision is being met with outrage, and if we now show India that outlawing love is making them an international embarrassment we can get the Indian Parliament to fast track passing a law that the judges have to respect.

Sign now to help love conquer fear in India. When we reach 1 million we’ll get all our names written on hundreds of giant hearts ringing the Indian parliament, then place prominent ads showing that the world will no longer accept making love illegal.

I have already signed this petition To the Indian Supreme Court and Parliament. I'm asking you to sign it as well, and, if possible to ask your friends to sign it as well.

http://www.avaaz.org/en/indias_gay_outrage_loc/?cfMTEcb

So far, nearly 358,000 people from all the world have signed. Please join them.

Thank you for reading.

Nick Lea 2013 Christmas Zine

Calling for Writers and Artists.

This year I shall be dedicating the Christmas Zine to Susan(Bardsmaid) a long time friend, who passed away on January 29th 2013. I have missed talking with her a great deal.

As always the zine will be based around the characters played by Nicholas Lea. I will accept both Gen and Slash submissions; though I would ask that any illustrations should not be overly explicit.

I'm not picky about the length of the story - or whether it's poetry or prose. The artwork can be cartoons, digital manipulations, pen and ink drawings, or paintings.

I will also accept any fusions or crossovers as long as the artwork or story's focus/main character is one played by Nick Lea.

Things I will not accept.
No fiction based on "The Investigation" as this is based on a real person.
Also, no RPF or RPS (Real Person Fiction or Real Person Slash) of any kind.

The closing date for submissions will be November 30th, which will give me time to read them and clarify any details.

Please let me know if you intend to take part in this project. (Thanks).

Please include the following Header Information at the top of your submission:

(Slash)
Title: Hidden
Author: Santa
Slash Pairing: Krycek/Mulder
Show: X-Files

(GenFic)
Title: Whatever
Author: Elf
Character(s): Jerome Horn,
Show: Threshold

Also please state if a Crossover or Fusion, with which TV shows or movies.

Character(s): Alex Krycek/Templeton Peck
i.e. Shows: X-Files/A-Team(tv series)

Please, please... remember to include the email address to which feedback on your story or artwork should be sent.

If you haven't participated before, please follow this link http://www.nick-lea.com/zines/christmas2008zine/index.html for an example of what the finished Zine looks like. Thank you.

My email address for submissions (and any queries) is aqualegia.aq at gmail dot com

So... At 2.40am I was woken up by flashes of lightening and rumbles of thunder; even though the curtains were closed, the flashes were so bright that they illuminated my bedroom. Then, about five minutes later there came an almighty bang of thunder immediately overhead. Now I was not only awake - but WIDE AWAKE! The thunder didn't die away until about 5.30am - and even then there was lightening still flashing across the sky. So I decided to have breakfast (I'm usually up about 6am, so I was only a little early), then I tried to get some more sleep. That didn't turn out too well, as another storm rolled in two hours later and I was blasted awake again.

Then this morning, at just after 3am, there was a cat fight taking place nearby and I was wide awake again. (sigh). It's been very hot and humid during both day and night, so there was no way I could sleep without the windows open, but I really could have done without being woken up way too early two mornings running.

The Nick Lea 2012 Zine is now available - here: http://www.nick-lea.com/zines/christmas2012zine/index.html

I apologize for the delay in publication this time around. As some of you already know, my computer broke down and I had to buy a new one. Unfortunately, I've put the program disks "in a safe place" - and I couldn't find them. Having to do a lot of things manually, instead of just clicking a button, is very time-consuming.

I hope you all have a Happy New Year.

The Zine is going to be a few days late. Sorry :( It will be published before Christmas.

Just to keep everyone updated. My laptop which will be celebrating its 10th birthday next March (it was a birthday present), has finally had a problem which isn't easily solved. The, now considered small, 64Gb hard disk was overwhelmed by a Microsoft update (Windows XP, Windows Explorer, and Microsoft Office 2003) which auto-downloaded all in one huge file. It ran out of disk space and shut down.

I've bought a new laptop with a 500Gb hard drive and will transfer the Office program to it, which will leave me room to use the web programs I need to create the pages. I need it to convert .doc to .txt :)

ACTA in a Nutshell –

What is ACTA?  ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.

Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”

What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Essential ACTA Resources

  • Read more about ACTA here: ACTA Fact Sheet
  • Read the authentic version of the ACTA text as of 15 April 2011, as finalized by participating countries here: ACTA Finalized Text
  • Follow the history of the treaty’s formation here: ACTA history
  • Read letters from U.S. Senator Ron Wyden wherein he challenges the constitutionality of ACTA: Letter 1 | Letter 2 | Read the Administration’s Response to Wyden’s First Letter here: Response
  • Watch a short informative video on ACTA: ACTA Video
  • Watch a lulzy video on ACTA: Lulzy Video

Say NO to ACTA. It is essential to spread awareness and get the word out on ACTA.

They pulled both SOPA and PIPA, yah!

But...(and you knew there was going to be a but):
SOPA Defeat Is Not the End Of Hollywood's Ramped-Up Fight Against Piracy (Analysis)

This is what Hollywood is saying and what they are planning: push for more criminal federal and international enforcement, use the courts to get civil injunctive relief, and keeping rewriting the copyright laws in their favor. Remember the lawsuit against Youtube is still to be decided. Imagine Youtube being out out of business just like Megaupload (although Youtube is not even coming close to pulling some of the boneheaded Megaupload moves).

"SOPA protesters roundly cheered when DNS-blocking was taken out of the anti-piracy bills before Congress. But just because Congress won't explicitly approve such measures doesn't mean that they won't happen. In piracy cases going forward, Holllywood can ask sympathetic judges to grant such relief anyway."

Since I know we're in it for the long haul and that the efforts to silence speech in favor of corporate interests will continue, I plan to carry on with the SOPA Boycott in March.

Nor am I alone in coming to this conclusion:

"The MPAA studios hate us. They hate us with region locks and unskippable screens and encryption and criminalization of fair use. They see us as stupid eyeballs with wallets, and they are entitled to a constant stream of our money. They despise us, and they certainly don’t respect us.

Yet when we watch their movies, we support them....They use our support to buy these laws.

So maybe, instead of waiting for the MPAA’s next law and changing our Twitter avatars for a few days in protest, it would be more productive to significantly reduce or eliminate our support of the MPAA member companies starting today, and start supporting campaign finance reform.
More "On The Next SOPA."
